POPPY FIELD

This beautiful poppy field, once a brutal battlefield,Is where you fought with courage, and would not yield. One glorious red poppy for each life spilled; One heavenly red poppy for each man killed. This is now your final, eternal bower,Represented by the presence of a wonderful flower.I stand on this special land, where you once stood,Where you battled for us, and shed your blood. Here on this hallowed earth, God showed you hell,Where many of you brave men fell.Once, in this world, your light brightly shone; Now, sadly and regrettably, so many of you are gone. This is where you took your last breath,Before the devil of war demanded your death. This is where you met your final foe,And now so many of you are lying below. Each one of you was so extremely brave,And so I’m here to kiss and bless your grave. This is where so many of you died;As a result, our future has been beautified. Here on this sacred spot, I place a stone,Not wanting you, my dear men, to be alone.I thank you, and to prove it’s sincere, I weep.Rest in peace, dear men, now that you sleep.
