Tending to Venom
Revised
Even here, I can't be myself Here, where I am so unsure of who I amHere it is that I forget, Intimidated by everyone else's, My own worth I never really smile And no one ever sees me But I'm told to be grateful for what I still have Why can't I recognise my situationAnd know that the cards I've been dealth are cheap? I will always turn around and smile But no matter how hard you've worked You won't always get what you deserve Bittersweet I see it all for what it is Happiness is lost when you do all the things they say to "just try" When you still wake up early and brush your teeth When you have breakfast before you go to workWhen you start a new exercise class When you do all the 'healthy', human, normal, every-day things and still, that smile doesn't reach your eyes... what then?
