Song For Ernestine

Ernestine was a young mother I knew who died after a long battle with cancer in Côte d'Ivoire in 2007 while I was visiting there. She was very beautiful and a gentle soul. She left behind a four year old son, and lies at peace in the forest near her home.

Sing me to my resting placeCradle my bones in your armsNight time is fallingI hear someone callingThe hour for my leaving has come. ChorusYes, the Siren of Forever is singing me homeward,Homeward, homeward. And the Siren of ForeverSings me home. Leave me gently, softly lieIn my homeland’s heart so sweetI smell the rains a-comin’Forest bees are hummin'I have honey, I have waterI’m complete. ChorusYes the Siren of Forever is singing me homewardHomeward, homewardYes the Siren of ForeverSings me homeward, homeward, homeward. And the Siren of ForeverSings me home. Dress me in my sunset clothesOf crimson, gold and greyOne final kiss goodbyeBaby boy with my eyesI’ll leave the moon to light you on your way. ChorusAs the Siren of Forever is singin’ me homewardHomeward, homeward.Yes the Siren of ForeverSings me homeward, homewardYes the Siren of ForeverSings me home.
