This page explains what personal data «Line of Poetry» collects, why, who helps us process it, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
«Line of Poetry» (www.lineofpoetry.com) is run by a small team in Oslo, Norway. We are responsible for the personal data described here. Questions about privacy: support@lineofpoetry.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, pen name, profile address, language and password. The password is stored only as a secure hash, so we cannot read it.
- What you add: poems, books, comments, messages, images, recordings, places you attach to poems, your profile text and links, and your birthday if you enter it. Also who you follow, your favourites and your groups.
- Login with Google or Facebook: your account ID at that service, your name, your email address, and your profile picture if you choose to use it as your avatar. We do not receive your password, your friends or your posts, and we never post anything on your behalf.
- Membership: payments are handled by Braintree, a PayPal service. We never see or store your card number. We keep your membership level and Braintree's references to your customer record and subscription.
- Technical data: your browser stores a login token so that you stay logged in. Google Analytics counts page visits.
Why we use it
- To run your account and show your poems the way you choose.
- To send the emails you expect: address verification, password reset, group invitations, and notifications about comments and followers. You can turn notifications off in your settings.
- To handle your membership and payments.
- To keep the site safe, and to find and fix problems.
What is public
Your pen name, your profile page and everything you publish (poems, books, comments) can be seen by anyone. Poems you keep unpublished, or publish only to a private group, are not public. Your email address is never shown to other users.
Who helps us
We do not sell personal data, and there is no advertising on «Line of Poetry». These companies process data for us, only to provide their part of the service:
- Clever Cloud (France): runs the website.
- MongoDB Atlas: stores the database.
- Cloudinary: stores images and recordings.
- Resend: sends our emails.
- Braintree / PayPal: handles payments.
- Google: login with Google, maps, visit statistics (Google Analytics), and detecting the language of a poem you write.
- Meta: login with Facebook.
- OpenAI: the text of published poems is sent to suggest their theme, form and tags. Your name and email address are not sent.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, poems and other content within 30 days. Copies in our backups disappear when those backups are replaced. Payment records are kept for as long as accounting law requires (5 years in Norway).
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we have about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to get a copy of it. You can also object to how we use it. Write to support@lineofpoetry.com. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.
Cookies and local storage
We store your login in your browser's local storage so that you stay logged in. Google Analytics uses cookies to count visits. We use no advertising cookies.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change matters for how we use your data, we tell you by email.
Delete your data
You can remove your Facebook or Google connection, or delete your whole account, at any time. Here is how.
