MY MENTOR
If I could anticipate where we were going, you and I,would we not cease to be strangers frantically avoiding the dark?We might seek out compassion, we might laugh, we might cryand not wallow in pain trying to hide the sin in my heart. I will sit here as always; wait for you to wheel and to deal, confront hungry men; hoping those fools pass me by,I will sweat and remember oblivion's sweet appeal, when the dragon knew when to remove sight from my eyes. You are my mentor, my lover, my crown prince of death, you saw clearly my passion, my need to extractevery emotion, every hope, every dream I posses, from a meaningless life where I constantly look back. Bring me your greed and I will pay with my soul, for I need love but will have to make do with your flesh, let us share the same needle for we have no controlover what surely must happen and one day must confess. Awakening now, oblivion recedes and the moon disappears,in the daylight your nakedness contorts in drowsy pain, thoughts torment me as the flies settle lazily upon the blood that congealsaround your thigh, around my arms, oh what insights did we gain? I watch you sleep quietly my mentor, my bringer of peace,as your dreams respond to a life on behalf of the past, the night brought your wanting, your gift brought releasefrom the burden of love that we both know won't last.
