'I Never Wanted To Be An American'
I never wanted to be an American,I played the cowboy sure, but couldn’t bear the thought of shooting native Indians. As a gangly teen I had no thoughts of copying James Dean, with a cigarette reclining slylyin the corner of my mouth. Why be Ginsberg or Keroac, when we had Blake and Dylan Thomas?Even Ali loved us. America found me anyway, pouring through the TV set, though Europe alwaysseemed the better bet.
