The quiet little girl
Elizabeth’s poem ‘That Little girl’, inspired me to write a poem about another little girl I knew!
There was a little girl who was four years oldShe was tiny for a girl of her ageShe started school in the nurseryAnd went to school with her big sisterWho was ten years older than her.She was an unusual little kidNever moaned or complainedThat she had to go to a school far awayTravelled in a train with her sisterIn a steam engine train which was so cool. The train crossed a famous riverWhich made a frightening soundAs it went on the bridge. There were crocodiles with their mouths openedSharp teeth waiting for the train to fallTo grab their breakfast and dinner. Her little heart used to beat so fastWhen the train travelled on the bridge. She kept her eyes shut as the train went clickety clackAnd made a loud choo choo sound. The nursery finished at twelve noonBut she had to wait in school till three pm.She threw her egg sandwich to the crowsAnd played hopscotch till three. The clean handkerchief her mum pinnedOn her pretty dress was always lost by the end of school.Did anyone take it from herOr did she drop it? her mum didn’t know. She knew how to write her name in fullRecite the alphabet, read, and write legibly. The little girl was the youngest of six children. She sat at the dinner table with her big brothersDoing their homework and watched them carefullyAnd learnt to add and subtract at the age of four.Do you know a little girl like thisWho was very quiet and never bothered anyone?Who might this little girl be? Was she quiet as an adult too? This quietness made her rather vulnerableCausing many a problem in her later lifeBut she worked hard and has nearly resolved them all.
