The Notebook

It was then I realised they were pages from the notebook It was a strange kind of dayA muggy day with hazy sunI didn’t see many people on the beachAlthough it was a Saturday afternoon. I was sitting on the beach for hoursJust throwing pebbles in the waterMy mind was absorbed in the next chapterLife has passed by quicker than I thought. Seagulls were pecking on tiny crabsSome gulls were flying just above waterTrying to snatch fish that came to the surfaceIt was amazing to see how they dived. I was surprised to see some gulls flying in a lineI got up and started to walk as the tide was coming inMy eyes were perplexed at the straight line of gullsI closed my eyes as water was splashing my face. I opened my eyes and saw a notebook with fluttering pagesIt was then I realised the flying gulls were pages from the bookI looked around to see if the owner was on the beachI picked it up with intention of handing to lost property. I glanced at the book but didn’t see the owner’s nameThe first page said, “Peter, the love I have would never dieHope you're at peace wherever you areIt's time I accept you would never come back and bid you farewell. “It was twenty years ago the waves took youI tried to save you, but you disappeared into the seaI came here year after year in case I would see you againI leave this book on the beach and hope the pages would fly to you." I didn’t read anymore pages as I felt they were words of loveMy heart felt sorrow and wondered how old she must beGrieving for her lost love, her hopes that have come to an endI left the notebook where I found, thinking about my next chapter in life.
