The Night Before Christmas
This is the second time I’m writing this poem. I deleted the first version because the first 3 verses were rather somber. From verse 4 onwards it was magical.
I felt it didn’t quite work.
So, here is the second version without the somber part.
It was night before Christmas, Nothing stirred, except in the Courtyard. This is where Linda lived. She was all ready to see Farther Christmas. She followed Santa’s timetable on Google. She knew when he would land in Hertford. He must at least take 5 minutes to get the gifts out. My long distance binoculars was ready behind my closed curtains. At 12.30. the black cat was hissing. There I see Rudolph with his shiny red nose! The other reindeers behind him half asleep! Santa was busy getting gifts out on to our communal garden for a sort out. As Santa was about to take off, ‘Snap!’ I took a picture; it was so magical. I was so pleased with myself. But did he leave a present for me? As I got up on Christmas morning, I saw a glittering blue star! With shaking hands I read it. Dear Linda Frances, The gift I’m giving you is something you’ve been asking God for a long time. God is going to make your illness better, No more depression and no more anxiety, You will have a peaceful life finally. It’s going to be the best time in your life, but keep working hard as you always do!
