The Balloon Flower

The pictures are Balloon Flowers that’s in a pot in my garden. They are the last to bloom in mid July and they last till about mid September. It’s a plant I really love mainly because of the balloon shaped bud. The botanical name is Platycodon Grandiflorus. But I prefer the name balloon flower!

Bloom little flowerYou’re not a seedThat was once buriedWithout any light. Rain helped youTo sprout from the darkYou now have rootsFirmly on the ground. You were once a tiny stalkShaken by the windYou got strongFrom the food of the earth. You grew into a pretty plantWith two leave at firstThen more sprout outAs days passed by. The sun gave warm wishesTo be greener each dayWith jagged edged leavesLooking awesome as days went by. When I saw you nextYou had more stemsStrong and healthyLike arms reaching the sky. As you became olderBlue buds appearedAt the end of each stemLike purple balloons. Some began to openThe rest of the budsAre waiting for the sunTo shine on you. Your buds are pretty enoughNow I know whyYou’re called a ‘Balloon Flower’A well suited name indeed.
