Season of Lent
Season of Lent is upon usLent is not simply giving up chocolatesOr some other cravingIt has a deeper meaning of being closer to our Lord. I had given up hope in divine spiritWith an illness of no hope of cureNor deathBut pain right till the end of my days. There isn’t a single day I haven’t shed a tearWith no medical helpNo friends to talk toMy life as a hermit has deepened with fear all around. Each day all I thought wasI wish I was deadMy dreams have shatteredThere is no point in life. I made an unplanned visit to church on the first day of LentI sobbed and said to Lord “My tears are all I can give youDo not look the other way LordHelp me to live.” Today was worse than any other day, I picked up a leaflet from my tableIt said, “Do not be afraid!”Our Lord’s resurrection speaks about the triumph of life over deathLight over darkness, presence over absence, fullness over emptiness. I must remember, God is calling me to some definite serviceHe has a mission for me and it’s certainly not wishing I was deadI am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between personsDo I want to break this chain before He calls me? It’s wonderful to witness good hearted people support each otherWe could easily walk by on the other side of the road and not be noticeableBut that would mean shutting down the tenderness we’re blessed withIt would mean isolating myself out of fear or being powerless. My thoughts went back to my visit to church on Ash WednesdayWhen I knocked on the Parish Priest’s door and said, “I’m sorry you’re ill”To which he replied, “I’m not ill” and blessed me with AshesIf the Priest can carry on with full blown Parkinson’s Disease, SO CAN I.
