Loneliness
She staired out of the window on a hazy afternoonHer eyelids were closing but the sound from the boxKept her awake. Her loneliness followed her like a worn-out shadowShe scrolled her contacts to speak to anyoneShe couldn’t find a single person. She went to a café and looked at the menuMade small talk with the waitress who served herShe Imagined she was with a friend. Her mind went back to her childhood daysIn a house with seven other peopleShe was a lonely little girl. She was not heard and her needs ignoredMade her feel she had no purposeDid she have any feelings? She kept her distance as she grew upWith the fear of not being acceptedShe had a solitary existence. The memory of her lonely childhoodThat were bottled up deep in her mindflooded her heart in a tide. She was sad, angry, and distressedHer feelings were valid and importantWhat a resilient child she was! As I sit here thinking of her lonely existenceWhich affects many people around usNot heard or seen by anyone. Loneliness is not always being aloneOne can be with peopleBut not cared or understood.
