Fear
I was planning to write a poem on ‘Children do and say the funniest things’, but couldn’t. This funny incident took one whole poem!
I was teaching mini beasts for science in a year 1 classChildren love this topic, but I don’tI showed them pictures of creepy crawliesThey looked real on the interactive white boardI tried my best not to show my feelings of fearBut the cockroach beat meI rather come face to face with a wild animal without fearBut this dark purple monstrous insect with two long antennasMoves fast and flies and can crawl all over youThe children noticed my fear, they now have a weapon against me. “I did some homework Miss”Gave me an A4 sized paper face downWhen I turned over I couldn’t help but shriekAs I felt a real cockroach was on meThe children found it hilariousNext comes a little boy with an angelic face“I got you a present from the gift shop, I hope you like it”Inside a little bottle was a preserved repulsive creatureMy reaction was to throw away the bottleThe lid opened and it fell. I felt it was flying at me and nearly ran out of the classroomMy heart was beating fast all I heard was loud laughterI cried during lunch time and went out to get some fresh airWhen I came back the beast was sitting on my chairI took the hoover and sucked it upWhen children arrived I was calmly sitting on my chairThey thought I was sitting on itI stood up, they were surprised the creature wasn’t there“Did you see that insect Miss?”“It just flew away” said I. Their big joke was over.Miss wasn’t frightened of cockroaches anymore. The dreaded name was never to be mentioned again. As I write this poem, I feel my heart is beating fast.Never show your fear of something to kids or anybody.
