Coming Home for Christmas

For the challenge I'm Driving Home for Christmas. I read quite a few poems where couples were coming together for Christmas after a breakup. I’m not very good in writing romantic poems. So I decided to make it a bit different.

The train from Aberdeen to London seems to take forever. My mind kept going back to the day I left home.Mum approved of me going to Uni in Scotland. But Dad was angry that I was leaving London to a college far away. There was so much sadness when I left home on that early Autumn Day.Dad would not speak to me and didn’t even say goodbye.I was worried of coming home for Christmas. But Mum said dad was missing me so much.“You know what your dad is like” said mum on the phone.“He still thinks you’re his little girl and needs looking after.”“He keeps buying your weekly marshmallows and coke same as ever.”Tears ran down my cheeks, my mum knew I was crying.“You better come home, because your sister is getting more round eating them.”“Your brother is drinking all the coke and burping on us to annoy.”I started laughing, my mum always knew how to make me laugh.I got off the train and was heading towards the underground station-When I saw a man running towards me.“Dad, you’re here!”“Where else would I be when my best girl was coming home for Christmas?”He carefully didn’t say the word ‘little’.“It’s okay dad, I will always be you little girl.”He carried my suitcase and put his arm round my waist.“Let’s go home for Christmas sweetheart.”
