A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream was written by William Shakespeare. I’ve seen it twice in the theatre and am utterly enchanted by the story.
The first part of my poem is about midsummer day. The last part is a dream I had on midsummer night.
We have arrived on midsummer dayAstronomical event when sun shines in glory making the longest dayIt’s the first time I went for a gathering on midsummer dayThe village community were meeting up in excitement in the nearby fieldTo witness the sunset about nine in the nightJagged flames of bonfire like a golden beast and eating twigs and timberSparks bursting upwards into the dark skyRoar of a sudden wind feeding the blazeThe whole area smelled rich earthy scent of woodsmokeMen and women with flower crowns singing and dancing around the bonfire like wild creatures trying to tame a giantFeasting on seasonal food of pickled herrings, cured salmon, boiled potatoes with dill and sour creamFresh strawberries with cream and cold beer were a real treat. I wasn’t too well to stay till the end but nevertheless enjoyed the festivalI walked back home on the narrow footpath surrounded by woodsThe nocturnal creatures were hiding by the noiseThe folkloric traditions say that picking seven kinds of wildflowersPlacing them under your pillow will cause you to dream of your future partnerThe woods were rich with wildflowersHyssop, Cat’s earplug, St John’s Wort, Marigold, Poppy, Corn flower, DandelionI washed them and put under my pillow before going to bed hoping with excitement to see my man. I felt floating in the air that took me above the cloudsThe stars around me flickering like diamondsI looked below and saw the earth like a small dotI saw a man standing in this small dot who I really loveMy heart started racing in a romantic whirlwindHe is a master of a thousand faces and I adore him live a thousand lives, none of which include me.The following morning, I thought about my passionate dream floating in spaceOn midsummer night fairies roam playing tricks on lovers who dream in the nightThe fairies certainly played a trick on me!
