Apháneia

The word ἀφάνεια (apháneia) means “to be hidden, to go unnoticed, to fade from perception”.

Great temple, Doric stonethat sprawls across the green.Within, upon a throne, one waits, a shaded queen. Greek goddess in a nicheof stone with arch above —her alabaster cheek, wax tear, unanswered love. Her name, Apháneia, wan goddess of the wise, the patroness of thosewhom we hide in plain sight. She waits in her great housefor worshippers to come, vast stone roof, light is doused:she’s only touched by the sun when shadows steal the day.
Last light is all she sees:she briefly shines, fades away, snuffed by the darkness’ breeze. Brief moments she is seenwith her perfection bare, draws back into her dreamwhere eyes return her stare.
