Home Grown Poet

Home Grown Poet

For someone who hated poetry at school, I somehow went on to being a grown up poet years later. My poetic journey all started with a simple 4 line Christmas poem in 1999 and with each December to follow, my poems stretched out into poems of eight verses. This then lead to my own greeting cards for family and friends, followed by poems of protest about one thing or another.
In the years to follow, with a shoebox full of forgotten poems tucked away, I was encouraged by a friend to put them all into one book, which in turn, became my first poetry book called “Home Grown Poems from a Small Town Girl”. All160 pages of this book of mine, consisted of old poems from the shoebox, plus a whole lot of new ones too.
It was only ever meant to be for my family and friends to one day remember me by. Not necessarily for the general public at the time. Now I don’t mind at all who reads them because I’ve completely accepted now, that poetry, is essentially just one small part of who I am.
I am also a published author now. As of 14th October, 2021, I published of my first (romance) novel called “Called The Raging Storm”, with a historical romance (already written), to follow in 2022.
Poetry will always retain a huge part of my soul, so of course, I never want to let it fade away into oblivion.
