Bliss
As I get older, closer grows my youth. The future dims to nothing but dull fears,While those unhappy years before I knewGlow ever brighter, shedding truth and tears. The way things never were now comforts meAnd things imagined calm and sooth my mind; That lad who I was not, could never be,Does what I could not do, leaves fact behind. We're made the way we are, like it or not.Though if we don't, it changes not a jot!We cannot take too much reality,So we imagine things that could not be.Thus blissful age rebuilds for us a pastThat never was, but will for ever last.
