Today it is Valentines, A day to show our loveWith paper cards and flowersChocolates, wine, and doves. Or perhaps a fancy restaurant, Where a tables booked for twoChampagne on ice and diamonds, Proposals and 'I do's'. Where money is no object, And lovers spend galoreWasting pounds and pennies, As others sleep inside shop doors. This day brings in millions, And is commercialised you seeSpending all your hard earned cash, On something that is free. For love it does cost nothing, And not be kept for just one dayWe should be giving of it freely, Doing so each and every day. It's not just romance and flowers, Or just one day we show we careWe should be sharing our love daily, And doing so everywhere. It's not just for lovers, It's for everyone we meetParents, children, siblings, friendsAnd those homeless on the street. By just one act of kindness, You can change somebodys dayWith a simple loving gesture, Or a kind word that you say.You don't have to wait 'til Valentine' s, To make someone feel they matterAnd all you have to spend is time, Stop witb them for a natter. Giving five minutes of your day, To someone feeling smallCan make them stand tall like a giant, And make them feel their ten feet tall.
