The Nights I Cried...

I spent the best part of ten years with this person. It is a very strange feeling. I feel as if I am somewhere between sorrow and peace.

The nights I cried over you The nights I loved you —And hated youSimultaneously; The nights we laughed,We danced,We kissed,We held each otherAnd promised it was forever.  The nights we swore it was over,Then kissed and made up.  The nights you cried like a babyAnd I held you in my arms, To soothe you.  The nights I sobbed, And you held me, Promising change.  The nights you lied, And hid empty bottles in cupboards. The nights I found full ones, And poured them down the sink.  The nights I was so angryAnd pushed to the edge That I didn't recognise myself; The nights that were full of promisesNever kept.  The nights you looked at meWith disappointment in your eyes, That came from your soul.  The nights I reflected the same back from mine.  The nights I swore — it was the last time.  The nights you swore it was too.  The nights I threatened to leave —And never come back; The night I finally left.  The nights I tore up your cards and letters, Bit by bit erasing you —While the faintest blueprint remained.  The night I heard you died; I thought I had cried my last tear for you —I was wrong.
