Scars

Reflections.
Every love leaves it's mark.

I remember those early daysweeks, monthsafter you left; How my heart felt likeit had been ripped from my chest, like an organ donorsduring transplant.  And how I ached for you, and would have given my everything, just to have one more minute with you, that was stretched, like elastic that had no end.  Now, I can't even remember your touch, your smile, your smell;I can't remember whyI thought I couldn't breathe without you.  I can't remember why I thought my lungs felt like a balloon, that had the air released—because a knife had pierced it.  I can't remember whymy eyes searched for you in old haunts, like a fox searching for preyit wanted to devour.  I can't remember our yesterdays;Because they are gone—And all I remember is your name.  If I didn't have scars, from being cut so deep, you could see my bones through the wounds—had you cared enough to look; I would doubt you ever existed— outside my mind.
