Just Friends

observation

Enjoying cakes at Bettys Tea Rooms only once a week,They greet each other with a kiss, a peck upon the cheek,And that’s the line where tender touching ends. The whole town knows so well that they’re just friendsThe tea arrives and each of them says “No, let me be mother.”They talk of this, they talk of that, and sometimes it’s the other. The Church, their children, never of their dreams. Two ordinary housewives, so it seems,But something called them one sweet nightWhen family life lay far ahead. It may be wrong, it may be right,But they both followed where it led.It was a night that neither would forget. It was a night that neither would regret. They argue over money, but they pay with separate cheques,And send each other’s families their very best respects. Then home to Dad as nature’s law intendsIt’s good to know they’ll always be good friends. I see all sorts from my seat at the piano in the Tea Rooms. never judge. Just observe and note.
