Derek was a good guy, quiet and shy.Whatever people asked of him, he would always tryTo help. So when Uncle Sam called on himTo fight the foreign foe,There was no question he would go.He completed training and was all set up to fight,But he made a big mistake one dark and misty night.Coming back to barracks, he turned left instead of right.He wound up in the “colored” quarters away from all his friends.That is how the nice guy’s story ends.Poor Derek. Based on a true story told to me by a friend many years ago.
