Dear PowerDear EgoDear LeaderDear Boss I'm writing to youTo sympathise for your loss I can't imagine how sad This news must have beenTo have lost one so specialWho brought so much to your team They lit up the roomThey ignited a sparkThey lifted your businessOut of the dark And for this to suddenly Come to an endIs so awfully sad This loss of a friend All of those livesThey had touched with their skillsA positive forceAmongst all of life's ills And yet... For some strange reasonYou drove them awayWas it your insecurityOr your ego at play? That instead of embracingThe asset you hadYou squashed and repressedAnd behaved really bad In the quest for an honourOr a royal rewardOr a recommendation From the chair of the board A peace prize, a medal An MBE from the KingPraise from up highFor doing your thing You couldn't let anyone Stand in your wayFrom being the heroAnd having your day No man is an islandNo woman tooBut you think that's the caseYour hero is you A narcissist leaderWith one thing on their mindTo get recognitionFor being one of a kind But kindness in youIs only skin deepTo be trully authentic Is too much of a leap To emulate DaddyAnd the success he has hadFeeds all that you are Turning all good deeds bad I am the loss That your ego expelledI am the Sycamore TreeThat you felled I am the ally That no longer existsLike many more like meIf your ego persists I mourn all the lossesThat bad bosses createIt is your ego, those like meWould like to berate If you are mindfulAnd look deep insideYou will find your own egoBehind the lives you divide Who wishes that somehowThey could hold on to their staffBut if you think I'll be stayingYou're having a laugh I want to work For a leader who caresIn a team always risingWith the profits and shares For a person with passionFor the people they leadAnd the example they setAnd the culture they breed To not just talk of wellbeingBut to embed it withinThe decisions they makeIn all that ends and begins These are the qualities Of a really good bossWhich brings me right backTo your terrible loss This is a reminderSomething 'to do'Look after your peopleAnd they'll look after you Don't bury their passionOr squash who they are Build up each individual And they'll help you go far Have a word with your egoTo rein itself in Regards...yours sincerely Resignation within
