Cheers!
Reflecting on past encounters with very good friends at times when things aren't always easy.
I wish we were best mates when we were youngerThat we'd been good friends before we wereI hope the feelings mutual And that if asked, they might concur So often when we're talking We share a point of viewOur conversations align and intertwineThere are mirrors in what we do We are a reflection of one anotherLike brothers in a wayNot equal or in unisonJust fit together like night and day One follows the otherNot ahead or close behindPart and parcel of the way things areNot a hassle or a bind And when I think of friendshipOurs is all that it should be Support when it is neededCare, concern and loyalty I've never valued camaraderie In the way that I do nowWhat would I be without my friendsSo I'll make this solemn vow One day I will thank themFor being there for meIn a way that they will not expectThat day will come eventually And when I die they will rememberThat the time they chose to giveWas a moment in my lifetimeWhen they made life worth the live What is a life that's worth the live? What worth is to be gained? From life's friendly encountersWhen we're so often entertained Not laughing loud, or deeply touched Or enthralled by everythingSimply living in the momentTwo pints and talk on anything Talking about simple thingsSome might call mundaneAn emptying of everythingThat's been running through our brain And in the process of that emptyingSynergies ariseWe agree on things we talk aboutWith the occasional surprise Connections we don't anticipateThings we say when we agreeThe power of conversationAs we set our thinking free And in these moments I'm reminded That when things aren't always perfect When life feels tough and not worth livingFriends can be more than we expect Friends can be our championsA channel for our fearsAn outlet for our aspirationsOr there to just say 'cheers!'
