But Now He's Gone Away

An observation which stirred and unsettled me

A man stood at the roadside Eyes closedStrongbrew in handHead rocking to an absent beat FentanylHeroinSomething which consumes I wanted to stop him To take him somewhere  Away from the road side His body behind the curbHis mind on the edgeHis soul on the floor At the crossing Before the next road Or the next Or the next ...Took him  Swallowed him Or maybe that's where he needed to be Swallowed By the guts of the universe To bloom and blossom Into something new If only he had knownThat he was thought about todayI should have stopped to tell himBut now he's gone away
