Mediterranean memories

Whenever I need a sense of calm to see me through the dayI recall that shaded balcony facing toward the bayWhere motorboats and sailing craft sedately make their way. Further along the iron-boned hulk lies rusted on its sideQuietly playing peek-a-boo to the rhythm of the tideIts carcass now a man-made reef where nervous fish might hide. In luxuriant temperate breeze sheltered from the sunI watch the sun-kissed tourists play with their children having funDipping their toes or swimming free where the gentle currents run. And later as the evening cools the swelter from the daythe last lonely fishing boats drift slowly across the bayThen I breathe a long contented sigh as the picture fades away.
