Dust and promises

How can we talk, when we have no words, when the words we had were written in dust, before the last great storm. How can we listen, when our ears are numb, still humming from the echo of last year's promises, slowly forming this year's dust. How can we hold on to hope with bloody hands,no matter how they may act the supplicant, once they wiped themselves on the dust of innocents.
