A Meditation

I was looking through some old jottings from about 6 years ago, when I started writing again. I found this poem amongst them.

I parted the peacock feathers, pushed down past petty conceit, threw wide the door of prejudiceand faced the depths of my soul. I found there another doorheld tight on rusted hinge, stubborn to the pull of will, obstinate to any force. Until I mastered my breath, calmed my desire, broke the shackle of intention, eased it open on humility's oil. And there it was, the core of me,that is more than me,more than my humanity:behold! the spirit of eternity.
