Bodhi - The Awakening
Inspired by the silhouette of a tree that I saw while on an evening walk at the campus. It reminded me of the Buddha and his painstaking journey towards Nirvana. As I walked past the tree, it dawned on me that a ritual, an object of prayer or a posture may be the outcome of enlightenment but it is not the other way round. Revering an object or a tree or sitting in a certain way may not cause bodhi. Suddenly I also understood that repressing anger may not bring compassion. But in compassion, anger dissolves on its own...that I need not salute someone to show respect but if I have respect for someone, a salute may arise of its own accord.
Dear Bodhisattva*:If enlightenment depended on a tree, all trees would be Buddhas. It is the awakening, instead of the tree, that holds the mystic key. © Chandra S., 2019 * In Buddhism, a bodhisattva (/ˌboʊdiːˈsʌtvə/ BOH-dee-SUT-və) is any person who is on the path towards Buddhahood.Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhisattva
