My waking dream
Imagine the scene balmy 20 degreesHumid yet fragrant in a waterside place Walking the swing bridge next to the treesThe surface shimmers as I casually gazeTwo Canoers are rowing and a fisherman castsThe only intrusion to this tranquil scene Rat tat tat.... a machine gun blastsIt's a swan s wings flapping trying to lift from the green An amazing sight as his feet run with intentNeck arrow straight and wings curved round Slapping the surface to get an ascent But abandons the effort and settles back down These hazy reflections deceiving my eyesCant fathom which swan is the realA perfect duplicate in both shape and size And colours that match with equal appealSo am I starting to hallucinate?my lack of sleep and a waking dreamMy eyes are so heavy I'm not feeling greatBut this composition the best I have seenThen a bark and a bark and a third for good measureTheres no dog walkers walking the grounds Then under the bridge 3 swans swim at leisure The cygenets are barking at least it's their sounds Are my ears at fault as well as my eyesIs madness descending on me I cant help but show a look of total surprise At what I can hear feel and see Then across the green surface 8 ducklings wanderWith mother and father in tow I walk to the green bank and gosh theres another Mother and father 8 ducklings to goI'm losing the plot from what I am seeing My thoughts must be jumbled reception not keenHearing is shot from what I am hearing The tiredest now that I've ever beenSo I walk through the green wood off to the rightBut I'm hearing water yet can T see a streamJust bushes and shrubs with trees that are bright Is this just another part of the dream Enter tunnel the babbling gets louder Like echoes through the vaults in my head Enough is enough of this futile distraction I return to my van I will go straight to bed Copyright 18062020
