Poetry speaks a poet rhymes A soothing voice for modern times A gentle whisper a raging shout Let those emotions out A call to action or soothing charmA darkened place one of alarm A fearful cry to passers byA scream of pain or tears of joyA song of ecstasy and love The devils horns or clouds above Beyond the grave it calls to us It speaks the truth the truth of us A poets words soar like a dove Beyond the heavens and stars above They travel deep beneath the waves Sing In the woods echo in the caves They tell of fantasy and mirthOr an ode to mother earthA sweetened sonnet or funeral dergeThe words bleed the verses surge And when at last it's time to seeA poetic rhyme the eulogyThe life and times theyve let us seeIn black and white their legacy So dont decry poetic rhyme This ancient metre for modern times Just as the sun will surely shine So will a poem each word and line Create a story of love fulfilledForbidden fruits or blood that's spilled A world of wonderment and painSpake from the soul cried like the rainBroken hearts or inspiring words Written down for all to share An with an orators spoken skillCan shape an audiences willPlay emotions like a harpTears of joy weep from the heart And so I say with wild refrainA poets strife becomes your gain An original work Copyright 27062020
